Coach Farm's Peppercorn Brick
oil on wood, 12x9
From the Cheese Portraits series.
This is a goat cheese from New York State. Another great cheese from nontraditional makers: Coach Farms they went from coachleather goods to highly regarded cheeses!
I had this cheese for much longer than I thought I would before getting to paint it. I decided to use a thin sharp knife to trim off the front side and make it fresh. In doing so, I noticed that the blade must have pushed a couple peppercorns through the soft creamy cheese creating those runway-like groves. Naturally, I found it even more interesting and painted the slice as a type asymmetrical of mirror image.
