Battery Park
oil on wood, 10x10"
From the Cheese Portraits series.
Pete Holmes sent me a wheel of his Battery Park to add to South Carolina to the cheese map. It's the flagship cheese of Charleston Artisan Cheesehouse and it is truly a beautiful bloomy-rind, Brie-style cheese. The cheese is made with milk from a single-source, 250 year old family farm and handcrafted and aged in Charleston.
I took advantage of the rather cool temperature in my studio, this November day, and painted this double-portrait with a thin wedge standing upright. I suspect it would've melted or flopped over, had it been summer. I really love the white-pillowy rind and couldn't resist placing it in a dramatic dark background.
