Grand Cru Surchoix Wedges
oil pastel on paper, 16x20"
From the Cheese Portraits series.
Roth Cheese in Wisconsin makes this amazing award-winning Alpine-style cheese is as close to Gruyere you'll find in the US. Made from the freshest milk and in imported copper vats from Switzerland, this is aged a minimum of 4 months and has a robust earthy taste.
This painting was a commission for cheesemaker Marc Druart, and this subject was one of the firsts he worked on at Emmi Roth USA which has won multiple awards worldwide. It's an honor to even know Marc some, and extra special to get to paint this surprise gift for him.
