Dozen Donuts

Oil on wood, 16x20"

Dozen Donuts, original artwork by Mike Geno

I had the delicious pleasure of meeting Carol Ha, owner and chef at Okie Dokie Donuts in Philadelphia when she brought me donuts to paint! She and I had a lot of friends in common, on instagram. I suppose it was inevitable our paths would cross. I'm blessed she made a special delivery and brought a dozen, four delicious flavors that she varied decoration for me to choose from. (flavors :Maple Brown Butter, Cherry Vanilla, Lemmon Thyme Ricotta, and Chocolate Crumble). I definitely felt it I was overdue to paint another donut but what I didn't expect was to fall in love with them as a group. So, I chose a challenge to paint the whole dozen. Essentially, this became 12 donut portraits and it took me two days non-stop to complete.... BEFORE I COULD EVEN EAT ONE! (tone of a martyr).

Carol turned out to be a fascinating and friendly person I hope to get know more soon. She told me she inadvertently started making donuts a while back for a friend that was gluten free. I was pleasantly surprised that even after posing for two LONG days, these donuts were still absolutely delicious. Donuts normally don't hold up like that, in my opinion, so I wonder if this is a quality of the unsung gluten free(?). If you get a chance to try one, I highly recommend it! If you dont, ... well feel free to buy this painting; it's also very gluten-free.
