Caramel Cream

Caramel Cream

Series: Foodie

Description: I grew up with this candy that seems untouched by time. It has meaning to me, as a fond food memory from my childhood.  My Aunt Trudy was one of the best people I've yet to meet on this planet and though I never really talked about this with anyone, I always associate these with her.  When I visited her they were often in her home.  I dont think I really had them elsewhere until later in life and so they are good and wholesome and ... tasty. It is, to me,  the perfect gratifying mouth feel, biting into one of these firm but chewy mouth sized candies.  I'm especially happy that they've not changed since ... forever?  It's an unexpected and distinct reward to sink your teeth into that perfect firmness of caramel and get to the icing-like crumbly sugar center that someone clever asked me "why does the center taste like ice?" - I love that. The Goetze's Candy Company (pronounced gets) is based in Baltimore, Maryland.  They were first established in 1895.  In 1917 they first created the "Chu-ees" which evolved into this signature candy, also known as Bull's Eyes.

Description: A second small painting of a childhood food memory. Visiting my Aunt Trudy as a kid, I always remembered these being given to me at her house. I cannot see them without thinking of her so this and the previous "Caramel Cream" painting are both tributes to the fond memory of her. I enjoyed painting these as a small group and think I could easily do a few dozen if I wanted to get lost in caramel creams!
