This was a fun commission of an absolutely delicious cake. I was approached to paint a family tradition. The patron's family all look forward to "The Poppyseed Cake" as they call it, for each of their birthdays.

The batter is laden with poppyseeds and made for a fun challenge to paint,( like a complicated blue chee se!) and not overly sweet. The two layers are separated and covered with chocolate ganache which is heavenly.
I was attracted to and challenged by the swoops of chocolate atop the cake, which I was told is the patron's mother's signature touch.

I love painting food memories and traditions; it's why I got into this in the first place!!
