Funnel Cake

oil on wood, 18x18"

Funnel Cake, original artwork by Mike Geno

I had the urge to challenge myself and tackle one of the more kitschy food subjects, usually associated with amusement parks and carnivals. Painting it was the equivelant to wrestling with a Celtic Knot and a mandala all at once. It was fun work to keep track of the bits and pieces and not get lost in it completely!

Big thanks goes to Fox and Son in the Reading Terminal Market, in Philadelphia. I stopped by for a fancy corn dog lunch and and asked the hypothetical "what do you think of making me a funnel cake to paint?" that turned into a 10 hour reality. Rebecca Foxman whipped me up a few good models and packed them carefully for me to get them safely to the studio. I painted this a bit large so I could actually keep track of all the twists and turns and now looking at it just makes me hungry.
